Cottage Grove 2003

There were a few less folks than last year, however we all had a great time. Farthest flown was Al Mackie from the LA area, with healthy contingents from Seattle and Central California. Of course, the usual mainstays of this event were there (Brent Burgess, Bill Austin, etc...).

Brent Burgess, out tireless organizer Brent did his usual "put on the dog" effort. With the help of his entire family, Friday dinner was Lasagna, Saturday night was BBQ chicken and Salmon! Not to mention the fly-out breakfast. Then there was the flour bombing, followed by flour bombing, followed by spot landings. Heard on 122.8 "Silver Luscombe in downwind, this is the Cessna holding short. Can you PLEASE extend? Otherwise I'll never get out of here!".

It was emothional taxiing past Jim Wright's hangar, especially given his unfortunate accident in the Hughes H1-B. Life at the airport went on however, with a number of folks working on their planes both days.

Mark Acosta, winner of Best Luscombe Mark Acosta, pictured to the left, won "Best Luscombe". His beautiful blue and white 8A was a stand-out at this gathering, as well as Columbia and this year's EAA get-together in Arlington, Washington.

Other winners included Mike Culver for "Best Modified Luscombe" (he has a polished 1947 8E, with a Lycoming O-235 up front).
