Founded by Loren Bump in 1975, the Continental
Luscombe Association
is a non-profit organization dedicated to the flying, preservation, and
enjoyment of Luscombe airplanes.
In the early 1990s the CLA was at a crossroads:
Loren Bump was unable to continue as leader, due to medical issues, so Gordy
Birse, Art Moxley, and Doug Clough took the reins, in order that the CLA would
survive. Survive is not the correct adjective: thrive is a better description;
membership climbed significantly under their leadership. In 2003 these
gentlemen turned leadership over to a board of elected directors, who guide the
club today.
Through our newsletter, The Luscombe Courant,
our annual Gathering of Luscombes
at Columbia, California, and such other organized and impromptu events as our
membership may contrive, we aim to strengthen the bonds of friendship between
Luscombe owners and enthusiasts throughout the world.
In this way we hope to foster the spirit of
camaraderie among Luscombe devotees that, in addition to the planes'
superb flying qualities, has made these ships such great
airplanes to own throughout the five-plus decades of their existence.
We are served by a Board of Directors, with each director elected to a three-year term.
